Feature Story Brainstorm

Who is your main subject? My grandpa Supporting interviews (who else do you need to talk to, minimum 2 other people)? My mom and my grandma What is the topic or potential topic? I know my grandpa was really poor as a young boy and that he has some interesting stories revolving around his life during that time. I also know he was in the military and has experience in many other jobs, but that he is now owner of the business, Carson Properties. My mom said he had a very eventful life, so I'd like to dig deeper into that information and find out how he grew from a young boy into successful businessman. I don't know what exact topic I'll focus on yet, but I think I will easily be able to pick a main focus after interviewing him. Which angle from above will you write the story? 3rd person Questions: When and where were you born? What do you consider the hardest time period of your life? Why? How did these tough situations shape/change you as a person? What is the scari

Questions A hard news lede introduces the situation by stating the what, when, where, why, and how of their article. The lede in this story was more focused on capturing the reader's attention and giving a main idea of who the article was written about. Who- 2nd paragraph, What- 2nd & 3rd paragraph, Where- 2nd paragraph, When- title/subtitle, Why- 3rd & 10th paragraph, How- 5th paragraph  There are lots of quotes in the story. Kevin McLoughlin, director of post-production films for the National Football League,  Dispatch  videographer Doral Chenoweth III,  Ken Andrews, a volunteer for Mount Carmel Outreach and a 15-year veteran of local homeless-assistance work,  WNCI program director Tony Florentino,  Shane Cormier, a Los Angeles agency owner,  league spokesman Patrick Harris, and of course Ted Williams are quoted.  The quote,  "My boss said to me: 'If you don't get hi

The Man Who Played The Violin

The Man Who Played The Violin I think a majority of people do perceive beauty, but only when they are not preoccupied. When people are focused on other things, they fail to stop and enjoy the little things, which is sad considering how busy everyone I know typically is. In a different setting, where people weren't rushing to get to work or catch the next subway, I think a lot more people would've stopped to realize the beauty in front of them. Realting to what I said before, most people do not have time or are unwilling to make time to appreciate the beauty around them. People think there are more important things to be focused on than the wonderful things they don't realize they're surrounded by. However, I think taking just a few minutes to acknowledge what's truly happening around us could benefit everybody. Very few people are able to recognize talent in an unexpected context because of their  failure to be observant. In the video we just watched, only a s

Peer Reflection

Peer Reflection #1 1. Who wrote the story? The story was written by Faith in 5th period journalism. 2. What is their story about? Their story is about printing things from school. 3. What is their direct opinion about that topic? Please quote it directly from the story or do a really good job of paraphrasing. Their direct opinion is that everyone should be able to print for free at school. " I believe that everybody at Bowie should have the privilege to print things for free at school. It's not really fair that the freshmen get to print things for free while the upperclassmen have to remember to bring money. Everybody should have the same opportunity to print their assignments out." 4. Did they address what the other side might think about their topic? They did dress that the school may not approve of the idea since printing costs money. 5. Were they wishy-washy with their opinion? By this I mean did they every go back and say well maybe if this w
