Assignment #1: School Uniforms

  1. What is your personal opinion on the new uniform policy your school had adopted?
  2. How will the school uniform policy effect the students of the district?
  3. Why do you support or challenge the requirement of school uniforms?
  4. What do you think caused this new rule to be put in place?
  5. How do you think this will impact your everyday lifestyle or routine at school?
  6. In what ways was the old dress code policy not sufficient enough to remain as it was?
  7. How do you think the students and the community will react to this policy?
  8. If students begin to protest this policy, what consequences should be put place, if any? 
  9. In what ways could the school uniforms help the district? 
  10. In what ways could the school uniforms hurt the district?
  11. Why or why not should students get a say/vote in this decision?
  12. Do you think this policy will spread to other districts and schools nearby? If so, why?
  13. Did the school board vote unanimously for this decision to be made, or was it hard to choose a final verdict?
  14. What reactions and opinions have you heard/seen so far on this topic, if any?
  15. When will the policy be official and enforced throughout the district?
  16. Some believe school uniforms help students focus on their schoolwork, rather than their outfits and the way they look. What are your views on this?
  17. Some believe students should be able to wear their own clothes because it gives them an opportunity to express themselves and their style. What are your views on this?
  18. Will school uniforms be sold by the school? If so, how much will they cost, and if some students have finial issues, will some sort of finial aid be provided?
  19. If students think the uniform is uncomfortable or have an issue with it, how are they expected to deal with the problem while still staying focused on their schoolwork? Should there ever any exceptions to wearing the uniform?
  20. What do you think these uniforms will teach the students of the district?

News- The Lockdown The story is about the Akins lockdown that took place on February 22, which was the result of a former student boarding a bus heading towards the school with ammunition. Senior Bee Barto and teacher Sarah Simmons were interviewed to share theyr experiences. Sarah Simmons and Bee Barto were quoted. I thought the strongest quotes was, "But I wanted to make sure it was a drill and I did see a SWAT team in the hall. It was at that point that I knew it was not a drill." Free Write - Embarrassment

Settled in after a long day, I finally got the chance to lay down and relax. I shut out the sound of the TV downstairs as my eyes began to slowly close, my exhaustion taking over. My mind takes me back to third grade. Mrs. Grance’s class was generally a good class, but there were definitely some bad days consisting of the kids not getting along or the teacher being way too intense for third graders to handle.
