  4. As one of the the top ranked teams in the world and the current third place team in La Liga this year, it's always fun to watch Real Madrid play. The 2018 season is still ongoing, but so far they have 18 wins, six ties, and five losses. Their league, La Liga, will award the team with the most points at the end of the season as 2018 La Liga champions. Every year they participate in different tournaments and are known to compete very. Real Madrid has won 12 European Cups, 6 Fifa Club World Cups,4 European Super Cups, 2 UEFA Cups, 33 Ligas, 19 Copa Del Rey trophies, and countless other championships. Last year, Real Madrid won another La Liga title, and their player Cristiano Ronaldo won the 2017 Ballon d'Or, an annual award given to the world's "best player."
  5. Three Important Rules: Both teams can only have 11 players on the field at one time (including their keeper), a game has 45 minute halves but extra time can be added for stoppage/injuries, players can control and manipulate the ball with all parts of the body except for their hands (only keepers can use hands)
  6. Jargon Terms: 50/50 Ball- A loose ball that players from opposing teams have an equal chance of getting and must fight for; Breakaway- when an attacker gets behind the other team's defense and is going to goal without any immediate pressure; Square- when two players on the same team are caught in the same eye of sight, making it harder to possess/attack and defend well
  7. A common cliche in soccer is that "it's a game of two halves," meaning that players must focus and play as well as they can for every minute of the game in both halves. The outcome of the game could end drastically different that how the first half ends.
  8. One of the exceptional players who is often referred to as the best in the world is named Pelé. Born in Minas Gerias, Brazil, he began playing soccer at a very young age.
